Scene3 Manpreet sitting in room – watches TV – Attempts increase volume The TV will be in the corner of the room Manpreet will be sitting at the other end. There will be various angles shown in order to make the scene more sinister. She sits there confused and puzzled. As voices start to appear Manpreet picks up the remote and decided to put the volume up in the attempt to drown the noise however instead of increasing the sound of the TV the voices increase. but voices just keep getting louderCamera pans around the room The camera pans around the room showing the walls and cramp conditions – focusing on the writing on the walls.(and the ones you trust come out to play)voices come again she starts to respond- stop it/ go away Digetic sounds – she starts to reply to the voices forcing them to leave her alone.(you’ll never be the same again)

(They told her what she did was right)voices (song backwards)scribblingwall pictures increase – camera pans around room(repeat the above)Scribbles on paper so much paper starts to rip

Scene 7 – ENDING - The scene of Rosie being stucked in is repeated however this time its Manpreet (older) being tucked in and when we see the face its herself. EFFECTS !! CAN BE DONE we checked basically shes tucking herself in (the otherside is) it makes out that shes dead because instead f being tucked in the bed a sheet draws over her body – is she dead or not- enigma

Low budget films: 5 cheapies that shook the world

Low budget movies that punched abover their weight

After much reasearch and analysis on low budget films in general (not just british) I came across an interesting article which named the 5 BEST low budget films that were cutting edge of this era. ((http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/film/6250305/Low-budget-films-5-cheapies-that-shook-the-world.html))

Reservoir Dogs
Quentin Tarantino, 1992

Tarantino’s debut made just shy of $3m at the US box office – pathetic. Then again, it cost less than half that. And it was showing on just16 screens. And it’s one of the defining films of the modern era. In short? $1.2m stunningly well-spent.

The Blair Witch Project
Daniel Myrick and Eduardo Sánchez, 1999
Still the gold-standard of budget filmmaking, this innovative shocker cost around $750,000 but grossed $0.25 billion. Relative to its budget, the Lord of the Rings trilogy would have had to take close to $100bn.

Halloween
John Carpenter, 1978
Made for an estimated $320,000, Carpenter’s still-terrifing film took $60m and set the template for endless dire immitations.

The Usual Suspects
Bryan Singer, 1995
Admittedly, even 14 years ago, its $6m budget was small but not infinitesimal. Yet consider its stylishness, the talent involved and its $23m takings in the US alone, and it looks like quite a bargain.

Little Miss Sunshine
Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris, 2006
This lovely sleeper hit cost just $8m to make yet won two Oscars and grossed $100m-plus world-wide.

Research findings - Magazine articles

Vogue

The British edition of Vogue is a fashion magazine that has been published since 1916.

When British Vogue was launched, it was the first overseas edition of an existing magazine. Under the magazine's first editor, Elspeth Champcommunal, the magazine was essentially the same as the American edition, but for its anglicised spellings. Under its second editor, Dorothy Todd, the magazine shifted its focus from fashion to literature and lost much of its audience. It was under Alison Settle, the magazine's third editor, that the magazine took off. British Vogue's current editor-in-chief is Alexandra Shulman. British Vogue is more commercial in approach than other editions of Vogue.

British Vogue is the most profitable British magazine as well as the most profitable Vogue besides the US edition. In 2007, it ran 2,020 pages of advertising at an average of £16,000 a page. ((Source Wiki))

I've decided to choose Vogue becuase i wanted to take a different spin with my first article, i wanted to show a more fashion forward piece, especially becuase of the Goth/emo/Grunge look being so popular amongst our primary audience. Along with the promotion of the film the article will/should look at the difference in of characteristics both physically and mentally to do with the actress and the character she plays.

I believe this can be done by taking shots of how she would normally dress herself, fashion shots ( dressesd up in "in season" trends ) and then how she dresses within the movie. To show the difference and similarties that are portrayed aestetically.

This image highlights the look and image of the popular "emo" trend which is used within the trailer and should be shown within the pictures for the article and will alos be discussed.

The picture above represents how the girl would look when wearing in trend clothes.

And then there would be shots of the actress in her full hair/makeup and clothing that she wore within the trailer.

Once again the relation between the magazine and the article would be that its more focused on the fashion side of things however it as always will also be promtoing the movie. This is effectivley done by many magazines, when people see the front cover/article graced by a sexy/attractive women they gasp in amazement as they realise that "she" "he" was "that" person in the movie, attracting even more publicity.

Vogue is known for catering for the higher classes and more finacialy able however i believe that our primary target audience 16-25 (females) will be interested in reading about another side to the widely anticiapted movie. In this case about the actress, her heading into fame and about what she likes/dislikes in term of fashion and how big of a change it was to play and ego so opposite and different to what she normally is like as a person.

Empire

Empire is a British film magazine published monthly by Bauer Consumer Media. From the first issue in July 1989, the magazine was edited by Barry McIlheney and published by Emap. Bauer purchased Emap Consumer Media in early 2008. It is the biggest selling film magazine in Britain, consistently outselling its nearest market rival Total Film and is also published in Australia, Turkey and Russia. Empire organises the annual Empire Awards which were sponsored by Sony Ericsson until 2009 and are now sponsored by Jameson. The awards are voted for by readers of the magazine. ((source wiki))

I decided to place my article within this brand of magazine becuase it is the best of its kind. It is constantly outselling its highest competitor "total film" The article that would be placed within this magazine would focus on the themes and ideads behind the movie in more detail it will discuss about the typical conventions of the "psychological genre" and why it is becomeing so popular and easy to produce. I would then start to bring in other horror success such as "paralnormal activity" and "Balir witch project" just to emphasise the success that can uprise from a certain genre and good press coverage.

The images in this case would centralise around the main protaganist as well as the location. This is becuase the articles main foucs is on the typical conventions including costume, makeup, lighting etc ..

Empire magazine will appeal to the audience becuase its for both genders of all ages as it reviews and looks at all aspects of films in a verious a ray of genres. In the case of our primary and secondary audience, they all will be able to enjoy the article due to the diverseity within the magazine.

The image above represents the angles that the article will take and also the types of pictures that i would tag with the article.

The image belowe respresents the Protaganist within the trailer and will alos be an important and central image of article, as it includes most conventions that i will relate back to the success of the genre ( article topic) which are lighting, costume, make up and the overal sense of the mise en scene.

British low budget films & institutions

The United Kingdom has had a large impact on modern cinema and has one the most respected film industries in the world. Despite a history of successful productions, the industry is characterised by an ongoing debate about its identity (including economic and cultural issues) and the influences of American and European cinema, although it is fair to say a brief 'golden age' was enjoyed in the 1940s from the studios of J. Arthur Rank and Alexander Korda. The British film industry has produced some of the greatest actors, directors and motion pictures of all time including Sir Alfred Hitchcock, Powell and Pressburger, David Lean, Laurence Olivier, David Niven, Michael Caine and Anthony Hopkins. ((Wiki))

* Sweet Sixteen - Ken Loach
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0313670/

* Long time dead - Marcus Adams ( British low budget horror ) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0251806/

The two above are both from 2001

Eran Creevy's low-budget British hit Shifty
Film from Between The Eyes about youth in drug-ridden Essex made under BBC Microwave scheme programme for young directors

http://entertainment.timesonline.co.uk/tol/arts_and_entertainment/film/article6067130.ece

The BBC Microwave scheme programme dictates that only £100,000 can be spent on the film. With this amount of money you are able to

* Produce one episode of top gear

* Make the first 10 minutes of casualty

* Produce the first second of the guniess domino advert

Or, if you were really clever, you could make Shifty, a gripping, stylish, 90-minute British film about love and friendship in the drug-ridden low-rises of Essex.

The film was shot in 18 days after extentive "story boarding" and favours in order to gain top marks for a "cheap thing"

Amityville Horror Poster Analysis

The title is in a thin font filled in with the colour red, with the letter ‘Y’ dripping like blood. This connotes that there’s lots of blood and death in it as the letters seem designed especially so they put the observer in mind of blood.
Beneath the title is a tag line ‘watch em and kill em’ here we can see what role the man in the poster may take as a villan, because from this shot we can see he going towards the house therefore we presume the residents are being watched and now he is going to kill them.
The colours used are grey house, and slight use of low key lighting coming from behind the house towards the man making him stand out. The dark colours connotes a daunting atmosphere, whereas the bright light colours give off a different affect which is more lively and this could be emphasis on the man’s strength and also a sign of warning to the audience and residents.
The props and images is the Big, old fashioned house which surrounded by trees this is typical convention of a Horror movie. The man looks as if he is walking towards the house holding a weapon which looks as if it’s a gun this connotes violence. This setting implies that the main events will take place within the house.
The Target Audience are fans of Horror, and Michael Bay as it says at the top he is who produced the film, and beneath that is the title which says 'based on a true story'; this creates a sense of fear for the audience. The age rating has not been specified but i would presume its 15+.
