When British Vogue was launched, it was the first overseas edition of an existing magazine. Under the magazine's first editor, Elspeth Champcommunal, the magazine was essentially the same as the American edition, but for its anglicised spellings. Under its second editor, Dorothy Todd, the magazine shifted its focus from fashion to literature and lost much of its audience. It was under Alison Settle, the magazine's third editor, that the magazine took off. British Vogue's current editor-in-chief is Alexandra Shulman. British Vogue is more commercial in approach than other editions of Vogue.
British Vogue is the most profitable British magazine as well as the most profitable Vogue besides the US edition. In 2007, it ran 2,020 pages of advertising at an average of £16,000 a page. ((Source Wiki))
I've decided to choose Vogue becuase i wanted to take a different spin with my first article, i wanted to show a more fashion forward piece, especially becuase of the Goth/emo/Grunge look being so popular amongst our primary audience. Along with the promotion of the film the article will/should look at the difference in of characteristics both physically and mentally to do with the actress and the character she plays.
I believe this can be done by taking shots of how she would normally dress herself, fashion shots ( dressesd up in "in season" trends ) and then how she dresses within the movie. To show the difference and similarties that are portrayed aestetically.
The picture above represents how the girl would look when wearing in trend clothes.
And then there would be shots of the actress in her full hair/makeup and clothing that she wore within the trailer.
Once again the relation between the magazine and the article would be that its more focused on the fashion side of things however it as always will also be promtoing the movie. This is effectivley done by many magazines, when people see the front cover/article graced by a sexy/attractive women they gasp in amazement as they realise that "she" "he" was "that" person in the movie, attracting even more publicity.
Vogue is known for catering for the higher classes and more finacialy able however i believe that our primary target audience 16-25 (females) will be interested in reading about another side to the widely anticiapted movie. In this case about the actress, her heading into fame and about what she likes/dislikes in term of fashion and how big of a change it was to play and ego so opposite and different to what she normally is like as a person.
Empire is a British film magazine published monthly by Bauer Consumer Media. From the first issue in July 1989, the magazine was edited by Barry McIlheney and published by Emap. Bauer purchased Emap Consumer Media in early 2008. It is the biggest selling film magazine in Britain, consistently outselling its nearest market rival Total Film and is also published in Australia, Turkey and Russia. Empire organises the annual Empire Awards which were sponsored by Sony Ericsson until 2009 and are now sponsored by Jameson. The awards are voted for by readers of the magazine. ((source wiki))
I decided to place my article within this brand of magazine becuase it is the best of its kind. It is constantly outselling its highest competitor "total film" The article that would be placed within this magazine would focus on the themes and ideads behind the movie in more detail it will discuss about the typical conventions of the "psychological genre" and why it is becomeing so popular and easy to produce. I would then start to bring in other horror success such as "paralnormal activity" and "Balir witch project" just to emphasise the success that can uprise from a certain genre and good press coverage.
The images in this case would centralise around the main protaganist as well as the location. This is becuase the articles main foucs is on the typical conventions including costume, makeup, lighting etc ..
Empire magazine will appeal to the audience becuase its for both genders of all ages as it reviews and looks at all aspects of films in a verious a ray of genres. In the case of our primary and secondary audience, they all will be able to enjoy the article due to the diverseity within the magazine.
The image above represents the angles that the article will take and also the types of pictures that i would tag with the article.
The image belowe respresents the Protaganist within the trailer and will alos be an important and central image of article, as it includes most conventions that i will relate back to the success of the genre ( article topic) which are lighting, costume, make up and the overal sense of the mise en scene.
